Psychotherapy enquiry guide: questions before your first visit

These selected Klang Valley centres list psychotherapy. Ask about the practitioner’s professional role, session format, initial and ongoing fees, and how the first visit works. A centre listing does not establish a particular practitioner’s availability or fit.

Compare psychotherapy providers

Source pages checked 23 October 2026. This guide supports provider choice; your clinician determines the assessment and treatment plan.

Compare role, session length and format together

Provider tiers can describe different professional roles and arrangements. Cara distinguishes supervised master’s trainees from professional counsellor tiers; its trainee sessions are in person. RELATE distinguishes supervised clinical psychology interns and qualified professionals, and lists a different session length. Ask who would actually see you, their role and registration, the session format and whether you can discuss language and personal fit before committing. Fee or tier does not establish clinical quality.

Separate assessment, one session and a package

RELATE requires a separately charged diagnostic assessment before therapy; a written report is optional and separately charged. Cara lists single sessions and a prepaid six-session package with the same therapist and a completion deadline. Compare the required first step, ongoing session fee and any full package commitment separately. A provider not listing an intake fee does not guarantee that the session amount is your complete first-visit cost. Current amounts and their review deadlines appear in the linked offer records.

Ask about continuity and cancellation before paying

How are goals and progress discussed? Can I continue with the same practitioner, or change if the arrangement does not suit me? Ask about payment timing, cancellation, late arrival and unused sessions. Check the exact terms for your option rather than assuming two centres have the same rules. Medify prepares an external enquiry; the provider confirms the practitioner and appointment directly with you.

Questions to take to your shortlisted providers

  • Which professional will I see, what is their role, and what happens at the first session?
  • What are the initial and ongoing session fees, assessment charges and cancellation terms?
  • Can I discuss language, online or in-person format, approach and changing practitioners?

Check the exact service and branch

Provider pages link to the official information used for each listing and show its review date. A listed service does not confirm appointment availability, suitability, fees or insurance acceptance.

Keep your enquiry practical

Contact opens the provider’s published channel. You can edit the prepared message before sending. Avoid adding detailed records or identity documents to an initial enquiry; ask the provider how to share them if needed.
